Cost of import
The cost of import depends on the cost of delivery and legal entry into the United States. Shipping companies or freight forwarders will offer their delivery prices. But, to get their proposals, the importer or the shipper must provide the freight forwarder with the cargo’s the size/weight information, the desired mode of transportation, and the addresses of loading and discharge.
However, the cost of legal entry, such as customs duties and fees and customs broker’s fees, is often impossible to calculate without detailed information on the merchandise, price, country of origin, and other information required for special merchandise classes.
Customs Duty
To calculate customs duty on the imported merchandise, the importer must use the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S., following its General Rules Interpretations, know trade agreements between the U.S. and the country origin. Sometimes, it is necessary to check on temporary legislation and the Customs and Border Protection rulings.
Customs brokers can provide the importer with their fee schedules. But it could be difficult for inexperienced importers to know what services to request for their shipments. For this reason, it is better to contact a broker for clarification.
If you are not sure what services to request, we can walk you through the importation process to budget your import. For this purpose, please provide us with details on your project.
Honest Pricing
Our customs broker fee schedule is not based on the value or volume of the imported merchandise. As a result, we offer a flat fee for import clearance (CF7501). It helps importers to budget their project and to avoid “surprise” charges.
